how to limit background processes a process uses up

Hi experts,

We have a very heavy payroll process (it is a z development), it takes a few hours, and as it runs all the 6 background processes get satured and it becomes imposible to run anything else (like other Jobs or even simple Transport orders). Is it posible to restrict the background processes that the z development uses up???
