I work on a help desk team for over 800 employees. Let me express first that I do not know much about Business Objects, Oracle, or BI client tools. I install them and beyond that, my knowledge is very limited.
Currently all BO users are running BO XI with SP3 and Fixpack 3.6, running Oracle 11g client. Some of these users also have the Oracle 9.2 client installed in order to use the GUI version of SQL+ or to use an outdated application that we still use.
Anyhow, one of the analysts has asked me to install a side-by-side installation of BI 4.1 SP6, then install BO XI SP5, then install BO XI SP7 on a computer that has both versions of the Oracle client on it. I did this and he said there were errors and he thinks it's a conflict with Oracle 9.2. Instead, I uninstalled everything including both versions of Oracle clients, all BI and BO software and started with a clean slate.
From experience, uninstalling Oracle client is not easy or quick. I use the universal installer, deinstall components of oracle, then manually delete folders and registry keys that are related to oracle. After I did this and reinstalled all BO and BI software again, the analyst told me the report conversion tool is giving the error: "Not Converted: Error on Web Intelligence server"
The analyst seems to think there are still pieces of the oracle 9.2 client on the computer that are causing this error.
The analyst also told me there are thousands of files that need to be converted and he would like users to convert them as much as possible. After quite a bit of research on the web, I found the following solutions 1. running the tool directly from the server. ( I don't know how to do that) or 2. run the tool as administrator. (not allowed for users to do on our network).
Basically I'm asking if the installation of the Oracle 9.2 client has anything to do with the error and if so, where might I find this piece of the client to delete it. If it's not Oracle client related, what might be the issue?
